Below is provided for information purposes only. Blue Dog Investigations & Services, Inc. and/or Traici Sexton is not a licensing entity. Please contact the Georgia Association of Professional Bondsmen for further information.
If you are interested in becoming a Bail Enforcement Agent / Bail Recovery Agent (Bounty Hunter) please see O.C.G.A. 17-6-56, O.C.G.A. 16-11-129 for requirements by law, which state:
1. Must be 25 years of age or older (no exceptions)
2. Must have a GEORGIA weapons permit (no exceptions)
3. Must complete the required GAPB class (see below)
The Georgia Association of Professional Bondsmen helped write the laws governing Bail Enforcement in Georgia. The GAPB offers Continuing Education classes that are REQUIRED to work as a Bail Enforcement Agent in Georgia. The class is 8 hours and cost $100. Bail Enforcement Agents and Bail Bondsmen must complete this class annually BY LAW.
Blue Dog and Traici Sexton no longer offer GAPB classes. If you are interested in attending a class please contact John Kaufman at 770.218.8413. John has a full calendar of classes available for you. >>> NOTE: This is only a recommendation. John Kaufman does not work for Blue Dog Investigations & Services. Blue Dog and Traici Sexton are in no way affiliated with John Kaufman, his company, or the classes he offers. Blue Dog is not have John's schedule of classes and is not able to assist you with registration. If you have any questions please contact John Kaufman directly at his office number 770.218.8413.
The GAPB Continuing Ed class is a REQUIRED class but is NOT a "training" class for Bail Enforcement Agents. The GAPB class covers the laws and the responsibilities of the Bail Enforcement Agent and the Bail Bondmen, but does not teach techniques such as skip trace and locate, how to apprehend, what state recognized "training" classes for Bail Enforcement Agents, nor does the state require any specific training. That is, there are no state recognized classes that teach "techniques" for being a bounty hunter. However, if interested in receiving training please see contact John Kaufman at 770.218.8413. >>> NOTE: This is only a recommendation. John Kaufman does not work for Blue Dog Investigations & Services. Blue Dog and Traici Sexton are in no way affiliated with John Kaufman, his company, or the classes he offers. Blue Dog is not aware of the schedule of classes and is not able to assist you with registration.
Most agents have a background in law enforcement and/or military. Basic self-defense, handcuffing techniques and firearms training are a plus. Most important is to have a good head on your shoulders, be able to think outside the box, have excellent communication skills, be able to notice and remember details, and at all times be professional.
By law, to be a Bail Enforcement Agent you must meet the requirements of the county in which the bond originated, which is the county you will return the fugitive to jail in. Each county varies.
Pay is based on the percentage of the bond. The industry standard, at this time, is 10% of the bond. If you are working for an agency, a certain percentage (25%-30%) of this amount goes to the company with the remaining 70%-75% going to the Bail Enforcement Agent. Most agencies establish minimum amounts that they will accept to hunt for a fugitive. This is to avoid being paid as little as $100 on a $1000 bond.
In the industry, most of the time; unless traveling out of area, gas, mileage, and other expenses are not paid in addition to the recovery fee. These incidentals are negotiated by the agency with the Bail Bondsman.
Blue Dog Investigations & Services, Inc. does not have any open positions and is not accepting any resumes at this time. Thank you.
VERY IMPORTANT: Private Investigations and Bail Enforcement are TWO completely different fields. PI is regulated by the Secretary of State and Bail Enforcement is regulated by the Georgia Association of Professional Bondsmen There is no place in the law, code, or regulations that encompasses the two job types. The PI class does not cover or substitute for the Bail Enforcement class and vice versa. The classes are not taught at the same place and the instructors are not the same. Blue Dog just happens to offer both of these services.
